Behind every stoic Japanese businessman face there is a secret, thus one aspect of "honne tatemae," which loosely translates to something along the lines of keeping the publicly acceptable face forward, and the true face within. This, combined with Japanese culture's general disdain for public affection, might make Tokyo seem to not have as vibrant an LGBT presence as hoped. Worry not: In a city as big as Tokyo, there is of course a thriving gay scene -- if you know where to look. Tonight, you'll not only see Japan's largest gayborhood, Shinjuku 2-chome, but Asakusa in the evening as well. You'll also get a solid primer in Japanese gay society, both past and present. We'll stop along the way for a local Japanese meal (veg options available), and a couple of drinks too. Get ready for a well-rounded adventure into the heart of homosexuality in Japan, led by a friendly native (or equivalent) speaker of your selected language who knows what it means to be gay in Japan.
There's gay life in Japan beyond Tokyo, not matter what those capital-dwelling naysayers might say. Osaka is the center of Japan's second biggest metropolitan area, with 17 million people or so... so, do the math and you'll see we've got plenty to offer the LGBT traveler! This experience shows you two distinct areas of Osaka with their handily bifurcated audiences.

Both in Tokyo and Osaka we offer LGBT tours that are much more than simply taking you to some cool bars. No snark: We want you to enjoy your night, but we are also eager to teach you about how gay life has evolved in Japan over the last century, plus or minus.
In Tokyo, we start you out in Asakusa. Back in the 1920s, this was the Shibuya of Tokyo. What was Shibuya doing back then? Growing rice or something. Asakusa was in fact so happening that Asia's very first subway ran from there to Ueno Station (the Ginza line -- if you ride it, check out the vintage infra!). The party eventually moved to the western, newer part of Tokyo, but the super secret gay scene aged with the neighborhood, and it continues to thrive, or at least maintain some state of homeostasis, even today. We show you Asakusa sights both gay and non-gay, then bring you on over to Shinjuku to see the bleeding edge of gay culture in Japan. There's much to see, and we know it well. Let us entertain you.
Osaka, while not the gay Mecca that Tokyo is, still is the seat of a 17 million person region, which means lots of LGBT looking to have a good time. Here, like in Tokyo, our tour takes you to two different neighborhoods. Also, like in Tokyo, one is more historically rich, and the other more cutting edge, but the Osaka vibe trumps stereotypes left and right. When it comes to personality, Osaka people have it in spades, and they are very, very friendly. We'll show you spots, but also be sure to enable some entertaining socialization with the locals.
Join us in Tokyo, Osaka, or both, and let us show you a gay ol' time! Please check out our individual tours for more details.
